SpaceX Starship test flight explodes during landing
American private space company SpaceX's next-generation heavy-lift rocket Starship exploded in a test flight in Texas on Wednesday. The launch and ascent of Starship serial number 8 (SN8) were successful, but as the engines appeared to reignite for landing, the vehicle flipped back to vertical and then slammed into the ground. The company said Starship SN8 lifted off from the launch pad in Cameron County, Texas, and successfully ascended, transitioned propellant, and performed its landing flip maneuver with precise flap control to reach its landing point. Yet, "low pressure in the fuel header tank during the landing burn led to high touchdown velocity resulting in a hard (and exciting!) landing," SpaceX said on its website. "Fuel header tank pressure was low during landing burn, causing touchdown velocity to be high & RUD (Rapid Unscheduled Disassembly), but we got all the data we needed!" SpaceX CEO Elon Musk tweeted. SpaceX's Starship spacecraft and Super Heavy rocket represent a fully reusable transportation system designed to carry both crew and cargo to Earth orbit, the moon, Mars and beyond. The space company said its Starship will be the world's most powerful launch vehicle ever developed, with the ability to carry in excess of 100 metric tons to Earth orbit. 米スペースX打ち上げに成功 野口さんら4人を載せISSへ
SpaceX launches four astronauts to ISS SpaceX launched four astronauts to the International Space Station on Sunday on the first full-fledged taxi flight for NASA by a private company. The Falcon rocket thundered into the night from Kennedy Space Center with three Americans and one Japanese, the second crew to be launched by SpaceX. The Dragon capsule on top, named Resilience by its crew in light of this year's many challenges, most notably COVID-19, was due to reach the space station late Monday and remain there until spring. Sidelined by the virus himself, SpaceX founder and chief executive Elon Musk was forced to monitor the action from afar. He tweeted that he "most likely" had a moderate case of COVID-19. NASA policy at Kennedy Space Center requires anyone testing positive for coronavirus to quarantine and remain isolated. Sunday's launch follows by just a few months SpaceX's two-pilot test flight. It kicks off what NASA hopes will be a long series of crew rotations between the US and the space station, after years of delay. More people means more science research at the orbiting lab, according to officials.

将来は宇宙飛行士、スペースXの宇宙船打ち上げの様子を見て喜ぶ女の子=アメリカ
This is the adorable moment a five-year-old girl who dreams of being an astronaut celebrated the SpaceX launch on Sunday night (November 15). Ryan Serena wore her beloved costume while watching on TV as Elon Musk's Falcon 9 rocket launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida. The schoolgirl danced with joy as the four astronauts inside the Dragon Crew Capsule-1 were fired into orbit. Ryan's proud mum, Tammy, from Philadelphia, said: ''Ryan is obsessed with all things space-related and when it comes to space my daughter knows much more than me. I'm so proud of my little human." Footage shows Ryan wearing a spacesuit costume and dancing with joy as she watched the launch of the spacecraft on TV. The clip begins with the little girl standing in front of the screen, eager to see the rocket fly up in the sky. As the spacecraft launches, Ryan jumps and sings as she becomes excited by the launch. She was even holding a piece of paper wishing the four astronauts a safe trip. Single-mum Tammy said that Ryan also dreams of becoming an astronaut when she grows up. On movie night Tammy said her daughter will always choose to watch a Space Station documentary. The Falcon 9 rocket was launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida, to the International Space Station. The mission was earlier delayed for 24 hours due to the weather conditions around the offshore landing zone. The SpaceX Crew Dragon operational flight is carrying three NASA astronauts Michael Hopkins, Victor Glover Michael Hopkins, Victor Glover and one Japanese space flyer Soichi Noguchi. The launch was attended by Vice President Mike Pence and second lady Karen Pence. SpaceX was founded in 2002 by controversial entrepreneur Elon Musk to reduce space transportation costs to enable the colonisation of Mars. International Space Station flies in front of moon in rare footage, just hours after SpaceX Dragon crew capsule docks
A videographer in Switzerland has captured footage of the International Space Station crossing in front of the moon. The rare footage was filmed just hours after two Nasa astronauts docked the SpaceX Dragon crew capsule to the ISS. The ISS is often visible during the night but flying in front of the moon happens much less often. Filmer Olivier Staiger had checked websites transit-finder.com and heavens-above.com in advance and travelled 20 miles from his home to capture the moment, where he knew there would be a "narrow path of visibility." He captured the ISS passing in front of the moon at 22:28 local time from the city of Sierre. "I could track it for three minutes before coming into shot," Staiger told Newsflare by phone on Sunday evening. "The ISS is brighter than any star, because it's so big and illuminated by the sun. There is no contrail behind it and it is not blinking." Staiger adds: "The first scene is filmed in wide angle (52.5 mm), overexposed to show the surrounding stars. Then a short clip, repeated five times, shows a closeup view of the moon as the ISS flew across [it], filmed with another camera/lens combination." President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump traveled to NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida, on May 27, aboard Air Force One to watch the SpaceX Falcon 9 launch. The scheduled event was to be the first time American astronauts were launched into space from US soil in nearly a decade, with the SpaceX rocket sending Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley to the International Space Station. The launch was scheduled for 4.33 pm, and decisions can be made up to 30 minutes before launch, reports said. NASA officials said they were monitoring conditions as the weather radar showed a period of storms on Wednesday afternoon. This video shows Air Force One heading to the launch site. NASA gave a behind-the-scenes look at systems and operations at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida in a livestream on Wednesday, May 27, a few hours before SpaceX was due to launch a manned crew aboard the Crew Dragon spacecraft. Wednesday’s launch will send NASA astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley on a test flight aboard the SpaceX Crew Dragon as part of the Commercial Crew Program — “a partnership to develop and fly human space transportation systems,” according to NASA. The Commercial Crew Program is a partnership between NASA and the United States-based commercial aerospace companies Boeing and SpaceX. The goal of the Crew Dragon flight, also known as “Demo-2,” is to “fully demonstrate SpaceX’s ability to fly astronauts safely to and from the International Space Station,” NASA said. Wednesday’s launch will be the first manned launch from United States territory since 2011, when NASA’s shuttle program was discontinued, NASA said. Footage from Winter Garden in the Sunshine State shows the Falcon Heavy rocket designed by SpaceX launching into the night sky earlier today (June 25). The filmer caught the spectacle from her backyard which was over an hour's drive from the launch site. She said: "We moved from Colorado to Florida in January. I had seen two launches prior, from much further away. But this one was great to see." "[It was a] very clear and quiet night here in Florida. The launch was so bright and the sonic boom that came later was amazing. "We are blessed to be able to watch the launches from our backyard now." The rocket which had 24 research satellites onboard was the heaviest flight for the spacecraft as it took off on its third flight. SpaceX explained that the launch was "challenging" as the satellites on board needed to be placed into three different orbits. Date:OCTOBER 9, 2018 Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa, the man chosen to be SpaceX's first private passenger, said on Tuesday (October 9) that he would like others to join him on his trip around the moon, though he had yet to extend any invitations. Maezawa had earlier indicated he would invite six to eight artists to join him on the lunar flyby. Only 24 astronauts have flown beyond Earth's protective magnetic shield, in missions spanning a four-year period from December 1968 to December 1972. During his first news conference since it was announced he would be a passenger onboard Elon Musk's SpaceX rocket Big Falcon during its forthcoming mission tentatively planned for 2023, Maezawa said he was excited to see the earth with his own eyes. "Just imagining that makes me cry," he told reporters in Tokyo. He did not disclose how much money he had put down as deposit for the opportunity and declined to comment on the cost of the project. Maezawa, the founder and chief executive of online fashion retailer Zozo, is most famous outside Japan for his record-breaking $110 million purchase of an untitled 1982 Jean-Michel Basquiat painting. SpaceX names Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa as first private tourist to the moon Date:SEPTEMBER 17, 2018 SpaceX, Elon Musk's space transportation company, on Monday (September 17) named its first private passenger on a voyage around the moon as Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa, the founder and chief executive of online fashion retailer Zozo. A former drummer in a punk band, Maezawa's moon flight is tentatively planned for 2023 aboard SpaceX's forthcoming Big Falcon Rocket (BFR) spaceship, taking the race to commercialize space travel to new heights. The first person to travel to the moon since the United States' Apollo missions ended in 1972, Maezawa's identity was revealed at an event on Monday evening at the company's headquarters and rocket factory in the Los Angeles suburb of Hawthorne. Most famous outside Japan for his record-breaking $110 million purchase of an untitled 1982 Jean-Michel Basquiat painting, Maezawa said he would invite six to eight artists to join him on the lunar orbit mission. Musk would not reveal the cost of the trip, but said the Japanese businessman outlaid a significant deposit and will have a material impact on the cost of developing the BFR. Musk called Maezawa a "very brave person" to take the flight to the moon. (Caption:2073EV-SPACEX-MOON_)
