    チェボクサリの広場に設置されたZのインスタレーションを破壊した2人の男性が逮捕される=ロシア

    Two Russian citizens were arrested in the city of Cheboksary after security camera footage showed them damaging a large 'Z' installation in a public square on Friday, June 17, the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Chuvash Republic said. This footage released by the ministry shows the two men, aged 22 and 24, taking turns kicking and punching through the large letter, which created visible holes. The Z symbol has been widely seen painted on military vehicles used in the invasion of Ukraine, as well as on clothing and billboards. The black and orange stripes on the installation are considered symbols of remembrance for the Russians who died in World War II. It is considered to be a symbol of support for Russia's ongoing war. According to the statement from the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Chuvash Republic, the men were charged with breaking Part 1 of Article 20.3.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation, which prohibits "public actions aimed at discrediting the use of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation." When an interviewer asked the men in custody what their motive was, one attributed it to being drunk and the other's response is inaudible. ロシアのノバヤ・ガゼータ紙の編集長でノーベル賞受賞者ムラトフ氏 列車内で襲撃され本人と個室内が赤いペンキに染まる

    Dmitry Muratov, the editor-in-chief of Novaya Gazeta, Nobel Prize laureate, and one of the last well-known independent journalists in Russia, said an unknown assailant attacked him on a train on April 7 by throwing red paint over him and his cabin. Photos showing Muratov and his compartment doused in paint were published by Novaya Gazeta, which on March 28 had been forced to suspend operations in Russia after receiving warnings from authorities over its coverage of the war in Ukraine. The closure came after the Kremlin introduced harsh punishments for media who describe the war in Ukraine as a "war" instead of Moscow's preferred "special military operation." According to Novaya Gazeta, Muratov said he had boarded a train at Moscow's Kazansky railway station when an attacker threw "oil paint with acetone" into his compartment, causing his eyes to burn "terribly." On April 8, the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs said confirmed the details of the attack, and said one of two suspects had been arrested. The ministry said the two suspects, who were "quickly identified," boarded a train at Kazansky station wearing medical masks and calling themselves conductors. One of them entered Muratov's compartment and threw paint over him before both suspects fled the scene, the ministry said. One suspect was detained soon after, but the other suspect had not been located, they said. Muratov and Filipino journalist Maria Ressa were jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2021 "for their efforts to safeguard freedom of expression, which is a precondition for democracy and lasting peace," the Nobel committee said. "Under Mr Muratov's leadership, Novaya Gazeta has criticised the Russian authorities for corruption, electoral fraud and human rights violations. Six of the newspaper's journalists have been murdered because they wrote critical articles on Russian military operations in Chechnya and the Caucasus," the committee wrote. ブチャでの戦争犯罪の報告に対するロシア側の反応

    People questioned by Current Time across multiple cities in Russia expressed mixed reactions to allegations that Russian forces committed war crimes in the Ukrainian town of Bucha. Graphic footage released by the Ukrainian military on April 2 showed bodies strewn across the streets of Bucha, after Russian forces pulled back from areas near Kyiv. Russia denied Ukrainian allegations that it had killed civilians in Bucha, describing footage and photographs of dead bodies as a "provocation" and a "staged performance" by Kyiv, according to media reports. Current Time asked people in several cities across Russia: "Did you hear about the Ukrainian city of Bucha?" Some echoed the Kremlin's line that images of atrocities were "fake." Others expressed shock and called the killings "horrible," while others did not wish to share their opinion. 戦争に対する言及や行動が制限されているロシア、女性2名がカメラの前で治安部隊に連れていかれる

    Footage recorded in central Moscow shows Russian security forces dragging away two women, including one who held a sign that read "two words," among the thousands detained domestically since the start of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The video was recorded by Activatica.org in Moscow's Manezhnaya Square on March 13. As it begins, a woman is conversing with a man behind the camera, asking if she would be arrested simply for holding the sign. Within seconds, helmeted men carry the woman away. Another woman walks up to the camera and asks if they are willing to speak with people besides those protesting the war. Before she has a chance to speak, the second woman is likewise dragged away by police. Earlier in March, Russia passed new laws that effectively criminalized "independent war reporting and protesting the war," as Human Rights Watch described the legislation. Thousands of demonstrators have been detained by Russian security forces since the start of the Ukraine invasion on February 24, including others who attempted to test restrictions by holding signs without overt reference to the war, including blank placards. ロシア全土の反戦デモ 参加者を次々と拘束するロシア警察

    Police detained more than 900 people at anti-war protests that occurred in 44 Russian cities on Sunday (February 27), raising the total since the start of Russia's invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 24 to over 4,000, independent protest monitoring group OVD-Info said. Sunday's protests coincided with the seventh anniversary of the murder of opposition politician Boris Nemtsov. Some of Sunday's arrests took place at an improvised memorial just outside the Kremlin at the site where Nemtsov was shot, a Reuters witness said. The OVD-Info monitor has documented crackdowns on Russia's opposition for years. Nemtsov was a prominent critic of President Vladimir Putin, Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014, and Moscow's support for pro-Russian separatists in Ukraine, which ultimately led to what Putin labels a "special operation" to protect the two separatist regions although his troops are fighting in wider Ukraine. Ukraine's Western allies have slapped unprecedented sanctions in response to Russia's land, sea, and air invasion. Putin ordered his military command to put nuclear-armed forces on high alert on Sunday as Ukrainian fighters defending the city of Kharkiv said they had repelled an attack by invading Russian troops. EDITORS PLEASE NOTE: SEE EDIT 9615 FOR MOSCOW RESIDENTS' COMMENTS ON THE CONFLICT IN UKRAINE TAKEN ON THURSDAY MORNING Muscovites looked unfazed on Thursday (February 24), the day President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in Ukraine. Moscow cafes were full, and street buskers did not include any anti-war songs to their sets. There were no queues at money exchange offices or at ATM machines in central Moscow, even though the Russian rouble fell to an all-time low. The Russian central bank ordered a stop currency trades at the Moscow Exchange (MOEX) and began interventions in support of the rouble. By noon on Thursday, the MOEX index also showed a record fall, losing 45 percent of value. RTS index was down more than 39 percent. The United States and the European Union adopted a package of sanctions against Russia, some of them affecting the financial sector of the Russian economy. "Harshest ever" sanctions are to follow, according to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
