ドイツでの親ロシア派デモはウクライナ支持者の数より多い
Around 600 pro-Russian protesters in a 350-car motorcade set off on a demonstration in Hanover in the north of Germany on Sunday (April 10), where there was also a counter-demonstration of around 700 people supporting Ukraine in the city centre, local police said. The motorcade, flying Russian and also a few German flags, is protesting against discrimination in Germany towards Russians following the Ukraine invasion. Police said fences had been put up to separate the pro-Russian protesters from the counter-demonstration and they added that the protests had been peaceful so far. Around 235,000 Russian citizens live in Germany, according to government statistics from late 2020. About 135,000 Ukrainians lived in Germany before Russia's invasion, based on the statistics, but around an additional 300,000 have arrived since the invasion. In Frankfurt, pro-Russian protesters gathered for a march through the city centre after local authorities refused to allow a motorcade. Counter-demonstrators assembled in two other locations in Frankfurt, with "Stop War" banners and Ukrainian flags painted on their faces. Police in Frankfurt said it was too soon to provide estimates of numbers at either protest. Local authorities expected around 2,000 people at the pro-Russian march. Local authorities had warned ahead of the protests that while protesters had a right to assemble, Russian war propaganda or endorsements of Russian aggression would not be tolerated, local media reported. Russian President Vladimir Putin sent his troops into Ukraine on what he calls a "special military operation" to demilitarise and "denazify" Ukraine. Ukraine and the West say Putin launched an unprovoked war of aggression. 米ニューヨークのワシントン・スクエア・パークで行われた無言の抗議デモ ウクライナにおけるロシア軍による拷問、レイプ、殺戮の疑いを糾弾
Protesters gathered at New York's Washington Square Park on Friday (April 8) to denounce alleged torture, rape, and killings by Russian forces in Ukraine. The protest was silent, interrupted by loud screaming at the very end, to hear the pain of people in Ukraine, said Maryna Prykhodko, a board member of the organization 'Razom For Ukraine' that organized the rally. "This was a rally under the hashtag '#russiarapes' to bring attention to the fact that Russian soldiers in Ukraine are raping women and children, they are torturing men, women, and children, and they are murdering everything that they see in sight, including animals," said Prykhodko. "We need the American public and the people that saw this rally today to understand the gravity of the situation and act and do something about it." U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Thursday (April 7) said that there are more credible reports of torture, rape, and killings by Russian forces in Ukraine. U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned the Security Council on Tuesday (April 5) that Russia's invasion of Ukraine is one of the greatest challenges ever to the international order "because of its nature, intensity, and consequences." Guterres said the war was putting even more pressure on the developing world, with more than 1.2 billion people particularly vulnerable to spiking food, energy, and fertilizer costs. Ukraine called for more weapons and harsher sanctions after it blamed Russia for a missile attack that killed at least 52 people at a train station packed with women, children, and the elderly fleeing the threat of a Russian offensive in the east. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy called the strike in Kramatorsk in the eastern region of Donetsk a deliberate attack on civilians. The city's mayor estimated about 4,000 people were gathered there at the time. "My country is suffering right now," said Oksana Fraccavento, a protester in New York. "My people got killed, civilians. So for me, it is very important to speak, to scream, to yell to that world, 'Wake up, look what's going on!'" The United States, the European Union, and Britain condemned the incident which took place on the same day European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen visited Kyiv to show solidarity and accelerate Ukraine's membership process. Reuters was unable to verify what happened in Kramatorsk. Moscow's more than six-week-long incursion has seen over 4 million people flee abroad, killed or injured thousands, left a quarter of the population homeless, and turned cities into rubble as it drags on for longer than Russia expected. Cluster munitions are banned under a 2008 convention. Russia has not signed it but has previously denied using such armaments in Ukraine. In Washington, a senior defense official said the United States was "not buying the denial by the Russians that they weren't responsible", and believed Russian forces had fired a short-range ballistic missile in the attack. The Russian defence ministry was quoted by the RIA news agency as saying the missiles said to have struck the station were used only by Ukraine's military and that Russia's armed forces had no targets assigned in Kramatorsk on Friday. Moscow has denied targeting civilians since President Vladimir Putin ordered the invasion on Feb. 24 in what Russia calls a "special military operation" to demilitarise and "denazify" its neighbour. Kyiv and Western supporters call that a pretext for an unprovoked invasion. ポーランドとベラルーシの国境でトラックを阻止するデモ隊 EUがロシアに資金援助していると非難
A group of protesters formed a blockade on a highway near the Poland-Belarus border on Thursday (April 7), stopping trucks headed to Russia. Protest organiser Natalya Panchenko told Reuters that the aim of the blockade was to "make the European Union stop its trade with Russia during wartime as it supports (the) genocide that's being committed in Ukraine right now." "If the European Union still can't find any reasons to block this trade, then we will block it," she added. A similar blockade was formed in mid-March, but Panchenko said this protest was different as it was not time-bound and the group plans to keep going for as long as they are able. "It doesn't depend on us (when it ends), it depends on politicians," she said. Another protester, Artem, from Belarus, said the war in Ukraine was a shared problem for all of Europe. "Ukrainians, stay strong, we are with you! And I am here to declare my position and say 'No' to war," he said. Participants in the blockade formed the number 167 with candles on the road in honour of the number of children who have reportedly died in Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion on Feb. 24. On Wednesday (April 6), Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced 167 children have died during the war. Polish police officials checked the papers of truck drivers, before deciding on whether trucks could drive up towards the protesters, fearing escalation. Empty trucks were allowed through the blockade by the protesters, as well those that headed to third-party countries such as Kazakhstan or countries in central and east Asia. A Reuters witness said the line of freight trucks was around 40-kilometres long, with many truck drivers having been stuck in the queue for multiple days. The protesters were mainly from Belarus, as well as some from Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Germany. マドリードのロシア大使館の前でウクライナの旗を振るデモ隊_スペインはロシア外交官と職員をマドリードから追放予定だと発表
Spain will expel some 25 Russian diplomats and embassy staff from Madrid, Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares said on Tuesday (April 5), in response to alleged war crimes by the Russian military in Ukraine. "We have decided to expel Russian diplomats and staff from the Russian embassy in Spain who represent a threat to the interests and security of our country," he said after the weekly cabinet meeting, without ruling out further measures. Albares said the Russian ambassador was not among the diplomats to be expelled. "We want to keep the ambassador here and our ambassador in Moscow because we don't lose hope that Putin's war will end and diplomatic ways and dialogue will be restored because that is the only thing wanted by the European Union and our transatlantic allies," he explained. The minister added that the expulsions were also a response to "The unbearable images of the killing of civilians in the Ukrainian region of Bucha after the retreat of Russian soldiers." フランクフルトのロシア領事館に「ブチャでの残虐行為」の映像を投影するデモ隊
Protesters projected images of the atrocities in the Ukrainian town of Bucha onto the wall of the Russian Consulate General in the German city of Frankfurt on Monday evening (April 4). The group of protesters, who wanted to remain anonymous, illuminated the building with red letters, reading "no money for murderers" in English, referring to Germany so far rejecting a ban on Russian gas imports. The protesters then projected images of dead civilians strewn across the town of Bucha onto the consulate. Russia on Sunday (April 3) denied Ukrainian allegations that it had killed civilians in the Ukrainian town of Bucha, describing footage and photographs of dead bodies as a "provocation" and a "staged performance" by Kyiv. Ukraine has accused the Russian military of massacring residents of Bucha, a town northwest of the capital Kyiv, an area Ukrainian troops said they recaptured on Saturday (April 2). Images of the atrocities in Bucha prompted Western countries to call for those responsible for alleged war crimes in Ukraine to be punished. Russia sent tens of thousands of troops into Ukraine on Feb. 24 in what it called a special operation to degrade its southern neighbour's military capabilities and root out people it called dangerous nationalists. Ukrainian forces have mounted stiff resistance and the West has imposed sweeping sanctions on Russia in an effort to force it to withdraw its forces. EDITORS PLEASE NOTE: SOME POSTERS CONTAIN PROFANITY Carrying posters and flags, hundreds of Ukrainian-Canadians and their supporters marched in Toronto on Sunday (April 3) to protest the Russian invasion as violence escalated over the weekend. The protest comes as Ukraine accused Russian forces of carrying out a "massacre" in Bucha, a town near Kyiv. Russia's defence ministry denied the allegations and Moscow requested the United Nations Security Council convene to discuss what Russia called a "provocation by Ukrainian radicals" in Bucha. Protester Myroslawa Jejna said in light of the atrocities taking place in Ukraine, Canada should do more to facilitate the resettlement of refugees. "The most important thing right now to help refugees coming into Canada is to help them with the support. You have to remember these people are leaving without passports. They're being bombed. They're being terrorized. They're seeing their families killed right before their very eyes," she said. "They need help to get to Canada. They need funding for that. They need support when they get here: housing, employment, counseling for the trauma that they've suffered." Canada is home to nearly 1.4 million people of Ukrainian descent, making it the Western Hemisphere's top location of Ukrainians living outside their country. ドイツでロシアのウクライナ侵攻に抗議するデモ隊
Some 300 pro-Ukraine demonstrators gathered in the German capital on Sunday (April 3) holding signs in support of Ukraine and calling Putin, the Russian president, a killer. Eva Yakubovska, one of the speakers at the gathering told Reuters TV that Putin wanted to eradicate Ukraine and its culture. "They want to erase the Ukrainians, so that Ukraine can never exist again and the whole world needs to understand what Russia is doing in Ukraine now. It is not just a war it is more than that," Yakubovska said. "It should be no gas, no oil between Germany and Russia, it should be hard sanctions. We need to know who is responsible for that, and it is responsible not the one man, it is responsible the soldiers which come to Ukraine and kill our people, which kill our civilians, our women, our children. They are responsible for that," she added. German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock also tweeted that Germany would harden sanctions in response to the 'unbridled violence.' Ukraine said on Saturday (April 2) that its forces had retaken all areas around Kyiv. The mayor of Bucha, a liberated town 37 km (23 miles) northwest of the capital, said that 300 of its residents had been killed by the Russian army. Russia denies killing civilians. EDITORS PLEASE NOTE: CONTAINS PROFANITY IN SHOT 5 Hungarians at a pro-Ukraine rally on Saturday (April 2) ahead of the country's election on Sunday (April 3) expressed their anger at Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. Demonstrators at the protest in Budapest held signs criticising Orban's close ties to Russian president Vladimir Putin, while speakers led the audience in pro-Ukrainian chants. Protester Adrien Karpati was concerned Orban's governing Fidesz party would win Sunday's election and was in tears at what she said was a lack of sympathy from her country. "Unfortunately the reason a lot of people will vote for the government (Fidesz) because they had a message that they would keep the peace for us," she said. "There is a war only hundred kilometres away and only this amount of people are coming. It's raining. It's clear that we should come and meanwhile I'm not seeing any sympathy from other people," she said while crying. Protester Piroska Padar brought flowers to the protest. "It's horrible because 30 years ago he (Orban) said we would send them (the Russians) away," she said. "Who is he sucking up to now?" she added, referring to Orban. "What kind of behaviour is this? What are my grandchildren learning from this?" An alliance of six oppositional parties under the leadership of Peter Marki-Zay is challenging Orban, who has governed Hungary since 2010. After Russia's invasion of Ukraine, opposition parties have criticised Orban's relationship with Putin during the lead-up to the election. In an interview with Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Marki-Zay had linked Orban to being a traitor for his pro-Russian stance. Orban and his party have a narrow lead over Marki-Zay's alliance of parties, with a tight race expected. ブダペストに避難してきたウクライナの母親たちが戦争の犠牲となった子供たちに敬意を払うイベントを開催しデモ行進する
In an effort to bring attention to the number of children among the civilian causalities of the Russo-Ukraine war, Ukrainian women marched in Budapest on Saturday (April 2). "My heart is crying. Such small kids are dying in Ukraine," said Anna, a refugee from Kyiv who fled with her 9-month-old son Timur. "We should stop this, this horror," she added. The organizer of the event, Olga Prykhodka, who also fled Kyiv, said 116 children had already died as a result of Russian attacks on Ukraine. As of Tuesday (March 29), the U.N. human rights office had confirmed 1,179 civilians killed and 1,860 injured across Ukraine in the five-week-old conflict, amid reporting delays due to the hostilities, a statement said. Ukraine said on Sunday (March 27) 139 children had been killed and more than 205 wounded so far in the conflict. Russian President Vladimir Putin sent his troops into Ukraine on Feb. 24 on what he calls a "special military operation" to demilitarise and "denazify" Ukraine. Russia has denied targeting civilians. Ukraine and the West say Putin launched an unprovoked war of aggression. カナダ・トロントで雪が降るなか、戦争を止めろとウクライナ支持者らが抗議活動
EDITORS NOTE: INSTANCE OF PROFANITY ON POSTER IN SHOT #12 Supporters of Ukraine braved Toronto's chilly weather on Sunday (March 27) to show their support for the embattled nation as they watched the #StopWar telethon in a public square. Canada is home to nearly 1.4 million people of Ukrainian descent, making it the Western Hemisphere's top location of Ukrainians living outside their country. Ukrainian-Canadian Kateryba Pylpiva said she wants NATO to institute a no-fly zone over Ukraine, to stop Russia from bombing civilian sites. "Right now, we're really asking the world to close the sky. If NATO can close the sky, the Ukrainians will finish the rest. If they don't want to fight, we'll finish it. But the biggest message right now to the whole world is to close the sky so there won't be no more shellings of civilians and apartment buildings, kids, people, elderly," she said. The United Nations has confirmed 1,119 civilian deaths and 1,790 injuries across Ukraine but says the real toll is likely to be higher. Ukraine said on Sunday 139 children had been killed and more than 205 wounded so far in the conflict. After more than four weeks of conflict, Russia has failed to seize any major Ukrainian city and signalled on Friday it was scaling back its ambitions to focus on securing the Donbass region, where Russian-backed separatists have been fighting the Ukrainian army for the past eight years. A local leader in the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic said on Sunday the region could soon hold a referendum on joining Russia, just as happened in Crimea after Russia seized the Ukrainian peninsula in 2014. Ukrainian-Canadian Oleg Gnizdiuk said Russians need to pressure President Vladimir Putin, since they put him in office. "Stop Putin. You voted for him, the majority of you," he said. "Those who don't support, they come out on the streets, they are being imprisoned. I really feel for those people. They are strong to bring up this issue but we would like more Russians to support Ukrainians and stop sending the troops and stop Putin." Moscow says the goals for what Putin calls a "special military operation" include demilitarising and "denazifying" its neighbour. Ukraine and its Western allies call this a pretext for unprovoked invasion. Zelenskiy demanded in a late-night television address on Saturday that Western nations hand over military hardware that was "gathering dust" in stockpiles, saying his nation needed just 1% of NATO's aircraft and 1% of its tanks. Western nations have given Ukraine anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles as well as small arms and protective equipment, without offering heavy armour or planes (Production: Kyaw Soe Oo, Arlene Eiras) ( Original Title: 'Stop Putin': Ukrainian-Canadians watch #Stop War telethon ) ( Caption: 7719WD-UKRAINE-CRISIS_TORONTO_O_ )

ロシア人家族 自国の戦争支持ムードに「耐えられない」とすぐにジョージアに亡命
The day after Russia invaded Ukraine, Olga and Nikolai Kustov packed up their St Petersburg apartment, took their children out of school, bundled their ageing cat into a crate, and moved to a foreign country. Olga and Nikolai are among tens of thousands of Russians who have opted to leave their home country after the war started on Feb. 24, in many cases fearing possible repercussions of their anti-war stance. "What happened did not leave us the option to live our old lives, even if we stayed in our flat, in the same job, with friends and relatives," said Olga, 35, who, along with her 36-year-old husband, Nikolai, worked as power line engineer back home. "In Russia, I was surrounded by people who supported it (the war) - it was unbearable," Nokolay said. Flying via Armenia, the Kustov family - with their two children, aged two and seven, and Olga's Ukrainian born mother - have now settled in the Tbilisi, capital of the neighbouring South Caucasus republic of Georgia, where Russians can stay visa-free for up to 12 months. They are part of a rapidly-swelling diaspora that has fled Russia since Moscow launched what it calls its "special military operation", but which the West and Ukraine see as a war of aggression. Olga's mother, Nadezhda Fyodorova, 61, was born in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro - then part the Soviet Union, and still has family there. She says she felt she was betraying her homeland by staying in a country that was waging war against it, and took unpaid leave from her job in Russia as a cardiologist to join her daughter's family in exile. "I cannot work... in a country that attacked my real motherland," Nadezdha told Reuters. "But the tragedy is that this country (Russia) is also native to me: I feel pain for it, too," she said, adding she would work in Ukraine as a doctor if the option arose. Moving has not been without its own issues: with no access to their bank accounts in Russia after Visa and Mastercard suspended their services there, the family relies on savings they had in cash. There are also questions about schooling for their small children and how long they will be able to stay in Tbilisi. Olga and Nikolai both have their sights set on potential engineering jobs in Canada - a plan they started to hatch as they witnessed what they call an advance on all freedoms back in Russia. "This sense of a looming catastrophe appeared much earlier than February this year," Olga said. Both she and Nikolai have taken part in opposition rallies in Russia over the last decade, and say it has gradually become impossible to speak out. "When (Russian opposition figure Alexei) Navalny was poisoned it was the first time when we felt that the West had paid us some attention, that the West understood the situation that was unfolding in Russia," Olga said. "That the sanctions that have been imposed now should have been imposed earlier." The couple's stance against the ongoing Ukraine war - and Russian President Vladimir Putin - has not been dimmed by the upheaval of the move: a recently-conceived blue-and-white flag used by parts of the Russian opposition is draped prominently in their Tbilisi apartment. "This flag is the flag of New Russia - the usual (Russian) flag but without the... blood-stained red stripe," Olga says. She notes the similarity to the opposition red-and-white flag used by those against the regime of Alexander Lukashenko in Belarus. It is not known exactly how many Russians plan on settling in Georgia, but according to government officials there cited by local media, between Feb. 24 and March 20, some 35,028 Russian citizens arrived in Georgia, of which over 14,000 had yet to leave the country. Expat Russian communities have also grown in other countries since the invasion, most notably in Turkey. The Ark, a support group for immigrants set up by the Russian community abroad, says it has received around 40,000 requests for help from those who left because of the war with Ukraine. The group believes as many as 500,000 people may have left the country after Feb. 24. The Kustovs say they might return to Russia in the future, but that it is out of the question for now. The family acknowledges they may never been able to go back. "As long as the situation is as it is, as long as we are pariahs there, I don't see any point in going back," says Nikolai. "I honestly believe that it's in Russia that Russians are treated the worst." Taras Shevchenko was a 19th-century Ukrainian poet, artist and political figure who worked to promote the unique culture, history and language of Ukraine at a time when it was part of the Russian empire. Now, as Ukrainians battle the Russians, a group of producers and historians have brought his work to cities across the United States and Canada in an exhibit known as 'Immersive Shevchenko: Soul of Ukraine.' Produced by the same group that created Immersive Van Gogh, the goal of the exhibit was to introduce the world to an artist who is known and revered in his native country, said producer Valeriy Kostyuk. "Essentially, this exhibit is a combination of the most significant works of Taras Shevchenko and the intention is to be able to allow people to understand what the Ukrainian soul is, to get audiences to experience the emotions of Shevchenko, in addition to his visual works," he said. Producer Corey Ross said Shevchenko's works are normally on display in Kyiv but they have been packed away to protect them from destruction. "When the war started in Ukraine, we were all looking for ways to help with something we could do. And we realized that this exhibit which is based on art which is in the National Museum in Kyiv, which is currently being hidden away from the Russians in the same boxes they used to hide these pieces from the Nazis in the 40s. And the only way to see these pieces right now is digitally. And so this just became an extraordinary opportunity to bring Shevchenko to the public," he said. Ukraine's Charge d'Affaires in Canada Bukyvych Andrii said everything that Shevchenko fought for is now at stake in what he called "a genocide". "It's not a war right now between two regular armies, but it's the extermination of civilians, of Ukrainians, mass demolition of Ukrainian infrastructure, of Ukrainian cities, villages and towns. All victims we see so far in large numbers are from bombings, shelling, air striking civilian houses, schools, hospitals. In fact, this is genocide against Ukrainian people," he said. Russia calls its actions in Ukraine a "special operation" that it says is not designed to occupy territory but to destroy its southern neighbor's military capabilities and capture what it regards as dangerous nationalists.
