ストーリー

Date:JUNE 24, 2020, JUNE 23, 2020 The school board in Oakland, California voted unanimously on Wednesday (June 24) to remove police from its schools, joining cities across the country in a nationwide push for policing reforms following the killing of George Floyd.
The push for removing police from the Oakland Unified School District was led by local activist group Black Organizing Project, which has been working on the issue for 10 years.
"This is both a fight to eliminate the punitive culture of policing but it's also to, I hope, transform our school system," said Jackie Byers, executive director of the Black Organizing Project.
The measure, named the George Floyd Resolution to Eliminate the Oakland Schools Police Department, would reallocate $2.5 million in funds previously used for police toward student support positions, including social workers, psychologists and other mental or behavioral health professionals.
It also requires a new safety plan for schools.
Defenders of the school police say they have special training to de-escalate tensions and protect campuses from outside threats, such as mass shootings.
The vote by the Oakland Unified School District came a day after its counterpart across the bay in San Francisco also voted to go police-free in its schools.
The school board in Los Angeles, meanwhile, failed to agree on a similar measure on Tuesday.

"I'm excited. Obviously it's been almost a decade to get to this point so it feels amazing, like a historical moment. And when you've worked so hard, and as a community have been demanding this for so long, to be able to celebrate together, is incredibly inspiring. I'm still kind of in shock, but I'm certainly excited and inspired and looking forward to what this means."

"You know this is both a fight to eliminate the punitive culture of policing but it's also to, I hope, transform our school system and really change the way the district has dealt with community and move more toward a community-control, community at the table (approach) and really taking leadership. It shouldn't have taken this long to listen to what students have been saying for years: that they don't want investment in law enforcement. So we think this is a good start and we know there's a lot of good work ahead of us but we have a lot of confidence in the community we've already been building with to take us to the next stage."
