ストーリー

The novel coronavirus pneumonia (NCP) epidemic is expected to reach its peak in mid-to-late February in the southern part of China, with no more peaks following in sight, mathematical modeling shows.

Respiratory scientist Zhong Nanshan, head of the national team of experts for NCP prevention and control and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, confirmed that the number of new confirmed cases has been gradually decreasing.

"According to the results from our mathematical modeling, in the south, it should be after mid-February, or in late February that the epidemic would reach the highest peak," he said.

"At this stage, many people are making their return trips (in post-Spring Festival travel rush), and some are concerned about whether it would cause another peak. Based on the current situation, I don’t think there will be a higher peak," the scientist added.

He explained that, those who returned to their hometowns for the Spring Festival have generally gone through the 14-day incubation period after the extended holiday. If they were infected, they would now be treated in their hometowns; if they were not, then it would be fine for them to go on trips and return to work in the cities.

Moreover, cities around the country have all set up posts for strict screening. All the passengers from vehicles, flights and trains have to go through strict screening. If they have fevers or other symptoms, they would be required to have nucleic acid tests and quarantined if the results are positive, Zhong added.

At present, early detection, early diagnosis and early quarantine are the most primitive but also the most effective solution, he stressed.
