ストーリー

Chinese medical teams assisting Wuhan have received professional training for treating patients and procedures for self-protection at the city's Tongji Hospital.

The training informed medical staff that have not experienced an epidemic before how to proceed with disposing of used medical equipment and how to protect themselves.

"We have never experienced an epidemic like this. So we need to enhance our knowledge about self-protection," said a medical staff member.

"I will try my best to protect myself, my colleagues, and people in Wuhan," said another medical worker.

Liu Jihong, vice president of Tongji Hospital, said that the training is about the layout of the isolation areas, how to take off their protective gear properly, and patient management.

"Some of them are specialists in respiratory and infectious diseases, some are not. They will work in isolation wards. So we need to offer them systematic training on wearing and removing protective gear, aseptic operations, and disinfections," said Liu.

Some of the hospital's wards have been converted into isolation rooms in just three days to try to host more infected patients, especially those with severe symptoms.

On Monday, a total of 1,930 beds were said to be ready for severely-ill patients at Tongji Hospital.

Hu Weiguo, team leader of Ruijin Hospital, said that Tongji Hospital is not fighting alone.

"We have come here in a group with medics from all medical departments. That enables us to deal with not only the pneumonia, but also many other complications, such as kidney and heart failure," said Hu.

Jiao Yahui, an official with the National Health Commission, said that Wuhan is prepared for any extra demands be it medical resources or patient care.

"We are tracking all medical resources in Wuhan, including those that are not yet used. If there are any extra demands, we will then be able to meet the needs and finish the task of moving all suspected and confirmed cases to hospitals, and offer them proper medical treatment," said Jiao.
