More than 3,600 passengers and crew members of the World Dream cruise ship were allowed to leave the ship on Sunday after a four-day quarantine over the novel coronavirus pneumonia (NCP) epidemic, according to Hong Kong health authorities.
The health authorities announced that passengers who have fever and all crew members of the ship have already tested negative for the virus, and they can disembark after 17:30 at a press briefing held at the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal at 15:00 on Sunday.
The cruise ship was quarantined in Hong Kong on Wednesday after several former passengers tested positive for the virus.
At 21:00, passengers who have been waited for four days on board began to leave the ship and say goodbye to crew members. They were allowed to return to their home after going through security check and immigration procedures.
Some passengers told the China Central Television (CCTV) that the living condition during the quarantine period is good, making them feel at ease.
"The condition on ship is not as bad as some people said. The living condition and working environment is okay. We have sufficient water and masks, which made us feel at ease. We never worried about the virus," said a passenger.
"Every day, staff members came to tidy my room and did chores. We were not afraid at all. In fact, the crew members of the cruise ship have done a good job," said another passenger.
The World Dream cruise ship first left Hong Kong on Jan. 19 and served several groups of tourists. After several cases of the novel coronavirus pneumonia were confirmed among the tourists on a previous trip, it had to return ahead of schedule and arrived at the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal on Wednesday.
The ship arrived with over 1,800 passengers and 1,800 crew members, who had not been allowed to leave until the Hong Kong health authorities finished the health examination.
